In Solidarity with Kids Who Have Cancer

Hair Saloon News

In a bold statement of solidarity with kids with cancer, more than 40 volunteers shaved their heads at a recent St. Baldrick’s Foundation fundraising event at Hair Saloon For Men to raise money for childhood cancer research. Over $21,000 was raised locally as part of a global effort to Conquer Childhood Cancers.
Why all the shaved heads? Worldwide a child is diagnosed with cancer every three minutes, and one in five children diagnosed in the U.S. will not survive. With only 4 percent of all federal cancer research funding dedicated to pediatric cancer research, St. Baldrick’s Foundation volunteers, supporters and donors are needed to continue the battle against this devastating disease.
The event started with only 20 shavees signed up, however men, women and children were lining up to get their heads shaved for kids with cancer.  Even our very own stylist, Amy Douglas (employee at Hair Saloon in Bellerive Plaza) shaved her head!  Music from American Idol favorite, Dylan Becker, brought the crowd to their feet with his band DECEDY.  Chucky Cheese and Kona Ice kept the kids entertained throughout the head shaving event.  Donations from Bar Napoli, FABICK, Webster Groves Fire Fighters, Coco Cola, Grey Eagle and Rent A Center helped make our 3rd Annual St. Baldricks Event a huge success.
BIG Thank you to all our volunteers and participants!
